Green water in the spring almost always comes from a closing done too early or an opening done too late : the water warmed up and algae multiplied. Here is how to avoid it and what to do.

The causes

Why is the water green?

Algae grow when the water is warm and the filtration is stopped. Under the cover in the spring, that is exactly what happens if you wait too long.

The good news: green water can be recovered. It simply needs more cleaning, and often more than one visit.

In the spring, the water warms up under the cover with no filtration. Every week of waiting makes the cleaning longer.

Close when the water is cold, then open as soon as the ice melts to restart the filtration early.

It needs a shock treatment, restarting the filtration, vacuuming with an external waste pump and brushing the walls and floor, often over several visits.
